Throes of Drought

Farmers nation wide are in the throes of a severe drought and we’re no different. Here at ICA we have had to send priority stock off grazing pre-Christmas. Water has been a big issue – reaching crisis point in the last week. Even if we had better feed covers we would have been stuck, this is leading to amended future plans – having already built two new reticulated dams to avoid this happening again. There is a widespread feeling amongst many farmers we’ve talked to of the growing need to tinker with farming systems to account for climatic changes being experienced. Below is a link to a recent article citing Ministry of Environment predictions for climate changes based on their modeling that makes interesting reading.
